Canine Runway Overview

We are excited to announce our first annual dog model competition, “Canine Runway: The search for America’s most paw-pular pooch.” This unique competition acts on pet owners’ passion with their four-legged friends and is designed to connect pet owners with their local pet retailers and leading pet product manufacturers in effort to strengthen the foundation of the pet industry.

Canine Runway will kick off this summer in Southern California. The competitions, to be held at local pet retail stores, will serve as a vehicle to familiarize consumers and media with their local pet marketplace on a regional and national scale. Four fabulous finalists will journey to Las Vegas in September where the grand prize winner will be announced at SuperZoo, the National Show for Pet Retailers.

Contest Details

All pet parents think their little darlings could be on the cover of a magazine. To prove how passionate people are about their pets, WWPIA created Canine Runway, a fun, attention-grabbing competition that acts on this pop-culture mania. Here’s a brief overview of how the competition will work:

• Participants will compete in a three-tiered competition, starting with preliminary competitions, then finals competitions, and finally the grand finals competition in Las Vegas.

• Participants will be judged on appearance, talent and overall presentation.

• Participants first compete in the preliminary competitions, which will be held in retail stores throughout Southern California.

• Two contestants from each retail location will be named the winners of their location’s preliminary competition. Each preliminary winner will advance to the finals competition; these will be hosted in one of the retail locations that hosted a preliminary competition. Four finalists will be selected during this level of competition and will advance to the grand finals competition.

• The four finalists will journey to Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas to compete in the grand finals competition. The grand finals competition will take place during SuperZoo, the national show for pet retailers hosted by WWPIA, September 9 – 11, 2008.

• Contest locations will be updated and participants will be assigned a competition location 2 weeks prior to the event.
