Bradley Caldwell Acquires Loveland Pet Products

Today Bradley Caldwell, Inc. (BCI) announced its acquisition of Loveland Pet Products.  “This is a great growth opportunity for both companies” according to Jim Bradley, CEO of BCI.  “Loveland Pet Products can use BCI’s expertise in the farm and home, lawn and garden, equine, wild bird, and pond markets to expand its business in the Midwest.  BCI can take advantage of Loveland’s expertise in the specialty pet marketplace.  As a result, both companies can enhance their service to independent specialty retailers in more than 26 states. ”

“This is a growth story as well as a chance to share best practices” explained Roger Johannigman, former owner and president of Loveland Pet Products, and now Vice President of BCI.  “There is insignificant overlap of markets and resources, allowing for growth without cannibalization. Plus, we have the opportunity to share and build-on the best of both family-owned companies that have formed similar cultures based on great service for independent retailers and strong partnerships with vendors.” 

The acquisition was finalized on July 29.  Specifics of the transaction were not disclosed.  Roger and Robert  Johannigman will continue to manage and operate the Mason, Ohio based distribution center under a long term employment contract with BCI.  Rob Johannigman, former owner of Loveland  explained,  “We love the industry, and love what we do.  We’re too young to quit. Plus, we have the opportunity to work with all of our great people.”  The existing warehouse and labor pool in Mason will remain in-place to serve the Midwest market area.  Customers and vendors should plan on conducting “business as usual.”

Products from current vendors that are part of Loveland Pet Products and not BCI will remain only in the Mason warehouse unless the vendor wants additional placement in the BCI Hazleton, Pennsylvania warehouse.  Same for products/vendors in the BCI Hazleton warehouse.
